Police Chaplain

The Rev. Dr. Nicholas Salios, retired United States Army chaplain of twenty years and clergyman serving parishes in Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, serves as the Plymouth Township Police Department Chaplain.  Having also served in industrial chaplaincy for some years, he is a member of the International Association of Police Chaplains.  Chaplain Salios has been a resident of Plymouth Township since 1980.

The chaplain serves many personal and spiritual needs of the police officer, understanding he or she is constantly in the presence of danger as well as under continuous pressure and stress.  He makes every effort to be available, listening to the problems and concerns within the department, ready to share in the grief, sorrow, and joys of everyday life of those individuals and the group as a whole.  With this comes the opportunity to respect those he serves, regardless of profound differences in race, economic status, or religious faith.

Often opportunities to lend support come as the chaplain rides frequently with officers on patrol, creating a relationship so that officers feel free to turn to him for counsel at any time.  Supportive in any situation or event, the chaplain comes to those who need him with openness, without judgment, and cares for them until the crisis moment is over.

The chaplain maintains his schedule with the Chief of Police, connecting to officers, the community they serve, their families, when confined at home or in the hospital.  He is also available to them, upon request, to conduct weddings, memorial services, funerals, and other special events.

A Police Officer's Prayer

LORD, I ask for courage

Courage to face and

conquer my own fears ...

Courage to take me where others will not go ...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others,

and strength of spirit to lead others ...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well

Dedication to my community

To keep it safe ...

And please, LORD, through it all,

Be at my side ...
