Prior to the start of his police career he served 4 years active duty in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. He also spent 2 years as a Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff. As Chief, he is the commander of all the units within the Police Department and he is responsible for the actions of all of his officers. Chief Pettine was promoted to his present rank on September 11, 2000. Prior to becoming Chief of Police, he held the ranks of Captain, Lieutenant, Patrol Sergeant, Detective and Patrol Officer within the Department. Between 1988 and 1996 Carmen was the Tactical Commander of the Special Operations Team. Chief Pettine has a degree in Criminal Justice Administration and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. During his police career he attended many schools including the Command Institute for Police Executives. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and presently serves on the Executive Board of the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County. Chief Pettine was raised in Conshohocken and resides in Plymouth Township with his wife MaryAnne and stepson George.
